Fitness and mental wellbeing

Use movement as one supportive part of life, without turning exercise into a promise or a test of character.

Everything healthbecause it all matters.

The starting point

Regular movement can support wellbeing for many people, while low mood, anxiety, stress, sleep and medication can affect energy and participation. The relationship is personal and sometimes complex.

01

Begin where you are

Plans can account for confidence, fatigue, previous experiences, access, safety and enjoyment. A short walk or manageable routine may be a more useful starting point than an ambitious programme.

02

Keep roles clear

Exercise support does not replace therapy, medication or medical care. Psychological and physical services can sit alongside one another when each has a clear purpose.

03

Respond to warning signs

Compulsive exercise, rapid changes in weight, fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness or an eating disorder concern require prompt input from an appropriate healthcare professional.
